Minister Tran Hong Ha received and worked with Mr. Joo-Ok Lee, Regional Director for Asia – Pacific, Member of the WEF Executive Board.
At the meeting, Mr. Joo-Ok Lee said he was very impressed with the results of the Vietnamese Government in general and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in particular on actions to respond to climate change and reduce plastic waste and circular economy development strategy. Mr. Joo-Ok Lee also acknowledged the support of Minister Tran Hong Ha recently, especially in the field of plastic waste and circular economy through the activities of the National Action Program on plastic waste (NPAP) has achieved certain results.
The working session
Mr. Joo-Ok Lee said that in 2022, WEF will organize major conferences, these events will attract the participation of leading political, business, research-academic leaders… to shape regional and global agendas. He hoped that Viet Nam would attend and share cooperation models and initiatives on reducing plastic waste, developing circular economy, etc.
Replying to Mr. Joo-Ok Lee, Minister Tran Hong Ha acknowledged WEF’s support and cooperation for Viet Nam in general and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in particular. In the coming time, in addition to cooperation activities with policies and commitments, the Minister wants the WEF to promote its role in promoting developed countries’ willingness to share financial resources, science and technology, experience… for developing countries. This cooperation is fair, mutually beneficial and for the common goal of solving problems such as reducing emissions, becoming carbon neutral, reducing plastic waste, conserving biodiversity, developing circular economy…
For the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Minister proposed to implement a number of activities such as: Continue to promote cooperation to solve the problem of plastic waste, including marine plastic waste through supporting Viet Nam to implement the National action plan which is already approved; Coordinating to promote the circular economy is a solution to realize sustainable development and Viet Nam’s commitments at COP26, especially in developing support policies and programs for Vietnamese businesses to access, apply circular economy models…
Minister Tran Hong Ha believes that the cooperation between WEF and Viet Nam in general and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in particular will develop further and achieve desired results.
